coutil

Coutil is a super tight, herringbone twill weave made especially for corsets. Twill weaves stretch. Alternating the direction of the weave results in the herringbone pattern, and the stretch is cancelled out.

I'm a fan of the 100% cotton version imported from Germany and I buy it from Farthingales in Los Angeles.

  1. Not sure if this is any use to you, but it's reasonably priced:

  2. Hey! I have sewn a few corsets myself and tutu.com has pretty good coutil. Mine has yet to give way and fray is minimal. The white is dyeable too! It used to be decently priced (about $10/yd) but costs have gone up. In case you start to feel broke from all the supplies ;) I know I do!
